An experiment in choice. To Blog or Not To Blog?

What am I talking about?

Do I blog or just have a website?

Simple, yes but in some sense, no, not really. The two types of platforms are similar in many respects but vastly different in others. At the moment I am only commenting about blogging here so if you choose a website as your medium to talk to the world then much of what I talk about is applicable to them also, so please keep reading. ( You can also attach a blog to any website).

Where do you start with a blog when your goal is not just any old blog but a top blog with great stats, popular amongst bloggers and full of interesting pictures and/or data that is easily configured and displayed in a clean, pleasing format. Actually this applies even if your reach is only to a small group of family and friends.

To start ‘Blogging‘ you need a “Blog“, sound obvious but not so. Do you get your own dot com to host your top blog or do you use one of the existing blog platforms? Do you use blogger, wordpress, blogspot or the myriad of other blogging programs available today? I certainly am not the one to ask, I use all the above for certain purposes. For pure blogging I love WordPress as a stand alone dot com or as a “myblog.wordpress dot com”, either work great. The choice of name is virtually unlimited and the joining process is too simple. Have a unique name and an e mail then you can have a blog in minutes if you choose the yourblog.wordpress platform.

If you choose your own dot com to host your blog then simply download the blogging program you can get for free from wordpress to your computer, unzip it, change one file in your standard text editor, upload to your dot com’s host and your done. The proceedure is eaxcellently explaind by wordpress at their site and in the download plus their forum is excellent value.

Steps:

  1. Dot com or wordpress
  2. Unique name
  3. Open account or download program software
  4. The important “Niche” next
